※感謝大家對”愛心小豬”活動的支持，二○○三年 ”Save for Jesus “的成果是$2,779.48。請大家繼續在二○○四年支持這個深具意義的活動。

 

※二○○三年建堂基金收入共計$137,170.52，其中包括教友奉獻$105,836.15，活動收入 $28,239.93，及利息收入$3,094.44。建堂基金累計$367,847.69。(以上數字皆不包括陳英機弟兄及詹玉蘭姐妹奉獻的四英畝土地)

 

※二○○四年將是我們堂區發展史上至關緊要的一年，因為我們新堂的建築在今年即將要破土動工了！每個教友家庭將會接到為第一期建堂工程的特別奉獻意向卡，這個奉獻意向必需呈報主教府，做為主教批準我們開工的依據。當您接到這奉獻意向卡時，務必請您填妥交回。今年的募款目標必需要達到四十萬($400,000)元，才能支付興工的支出。敬請您大力祈禱並慷慨解囊，讓我們攜手共建新家園！

各組計畫及工作報導

 

禮儀組                                             席鯤珍供稿

 

※四旬期將於二月二十五日開始，教會要求教友在聖灰禮儀和耶穌受難兩天守大小齋，並在四旬期間每星期五守小齋。

 

※去年帶回的聖枝，願意送回教堂給神父燒成聖灰者，請於二月十五日之前送回，以便於聖灰禮儀時使用。

 

 

※二月份主要彌撒瞻禮如下:

2/02, 獻主節，神父將於星期一晚上7:30平日彌撒時，為教友祝聖蠟燭。

2/25, 聖灰禮儀彌撒，星期三晚上7:30。

2/27, 拜苦路，星期五晚上7:15。

2/29, 四旬期第一主日，彌撒時間照常。

 

關懷組                                 韓開元供稿

 

※  本月慶生將於二月一日中午在活動大廳舉行，請大家一起來參與，分享壽星們的喜悅，和可口的蛋糕。

 

※  二○○三年十二月十四日召開仁愛基金審核會結論如下:

1.    捐贈三百元贊助達拉斯天主教機構White Rose Women's Center，為教育公眾認識、尊重及保護未出生嬰兒生命的工作。

2.    捐贈五百元贊助Fr. Luis在中國大陸為麻瘋病患的社會服務工作。

 

※  今年元月三日前往達拉斯White Rose Women's Center參觀及在附近墮胎診所為未出生嬰兒祈禱的教友約有卅多位。當天下午有十二名女士到中心來要求協助。感謝教友們，尤其是青少年們的踴躍參與。該婦女中心急需志願工作者參加服務。有意者請與 Marvin連繫。

 

※  依據主教府及Pro-life Committee的資料顯示，自從一九七三年一月廿二日墮胎合法化以來，已有近四千三百萬胎兒結束了性命。請教友們多為新的生命祈禱，參與Pro-life Committee每月第二個週六在墮胎診所前的玫瑰經祈禱活動。二月份的活動將於十四日上午九時在Garland的一家診所前舉行。願意參與的弟兄姐妹們，請與Marvin、莊祖琪、或韓開元連絡。

※    教堂大門西側的第一個停車位保留給本堂神父使用，另兩個連續的車位保留給來訪的神父及訪者。請大家在參加主日彌撒時，不要使用這些保留車位，其他時間則可自由使用，謝謝合作。

 

※    在神父辦公室旁的房間，新設一個“失物招領”箱。您如果撿到無主的失物，請放在此箱中，以待認領。失主也請到此箱中找尋您的遺失物品。您如果撿到貴重物品，請交給堂區任何一位工作人員。

 

青少年陶成組                      朱偉言供稿

 

※  您的子女希望有個快樂難忘的夏令營嗎？在德州由天主教團體辦的The Pines Catholic Camp每年夏天都舉辨多項為期一週的夏令營活動。各項活動中以Counselor in Training和Service work week兩項頗值得青少年參與。參加費用約 $300。每年參加的人數極踴躍。如貴子女有意參加，請儘快於二月份時報名。詳情請閱網站 www.thepines.org.

 

※  堂區現有幾十張Pro-Life bumper sticker。歡迎教友取用，幫忙宣揚維護生命的信息。

 

※  二月十四日(週六)四旬期避靜，我們會為六年級及以下的兒童安排避靜活動。費用每人五元。供應早、午餐。七年級以上青少年的避靜活動，將另外安排，再行通知。

 

※  由著名天主教演員Mel Gibson自資拍攝的有關救主耶穌在世最後十二個小時的電影 The Passion of Christ，將在聖灰日(二月二十五日)在全美首映。看過試映的觀家，均有好評。如時間能安排得當，我們將帶領堂區青少年一起去觀賞。也希望教友們能抽空去觀賞這部難得一見的電影著作。   

 

夫婦懇談會                                       張元生供稿

 

※“九種人格在愛及工作中”一書的研討會在一月十日舉行了第二次討論會。蕭康宜帶領“第四型與第八型之關係”的討論，會中大家踴躍發言，獲益良多。了解是接受的第一步。

 

由於發言熱烈，只討論了第四型的前一半。下次聚會訂於二月七日下午三時十五分在教堂舉行，將繼續第四型的討論。

 

     特別感謝蕭康宜所花費的時間及精力將第四和第八型翻譯成中文。我們需要志願者繼續翻譯其他的部分。假如您有興趣請與蕭康宜或張元生聯絡。討論會固定於每月第二個星期六下午三時十五分在教堂舉行。時間上如有衝突，則會另定時間。四月份在十七日舉行。

 

中文學校                                        萬玉珊供稿

 

※ 非常感謝所有家長協助孩子們準備新春節目的演出。尤其是你們的陪伴及道具的製作，讓孩子們度過一個喜氣洋洋，充滿歡樂農曆新年晚會。

 

※ 2月1日為慶祝農曆新年停課1次，接下來的4週各班將專心於課文及生字的教學，生活教育則專心在 – 欲速則不達 – 的應用。

 

New Church Building Committee:

 

※Thanks to all the children and adults who supported the “Save for Jesus” activity in Year 2003. Year 2003’s total for the piggy bank donation was $2,779.48. Please continue to save for Jesus in year 2004.

 

※Year 2003’s total donation to our new building fund was $137,170.52, which includes regular donation of $105,836.15, special activities’ income of $28,239.93, and bank interest of $3,094.44 The accumulated total for the New Building Fund, up to the end of 2003, is $367,847.69. (All above figures do not include the special 4-acre land donation from Hinkki and Teresa Chen).

 

※Year 2004 is going to be marked as a special year in our parish’s history, because our new church building is going to break ground in this year! Every family will soon receive a special pledge card for the first stage of construction. It is essential that every family send back this pledge card, which will be reported to Diocese.  The total of pledge received is one of the critical criteria for the Bishop to evaluate and to grant approval for the construction. We must meet our $400,000 fund raising goal this year in order to afford the construction. Let’s build our new home together! Your prayers and generosity are needed.

 

Financial Council:

 

※The Diocesan Financial Council recommends and the Bishop approves the proposed financing plan from the Mission of the Sacred Heart of the Jesus, as follows:

 

·                    Loan not to exceed $900,000

·                    Interest rate not to exceed 6.5%

·                    Term not to exceed 15 years

·                    Total project cost, excluding donated land, not to exceed $1,500,000

 

Liturgy:

 

※The season of Lent begins on 2/25 this year.  The Church requests that parishioner between the age of 18 and 59 must fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.  Abstinence from meat on all Fridays during the season is mandatory.

 

※The blessed palms that each parish member took home last year can be returned before 2/15 to be burned for Ash Wednesday.

 

※Events in February are as follows:

2/02, Presentation of the Lord, Fr. Chen will bless candles for parishioners during the 7:30pm Mass on Monday.

2/25, Ash Wednesday Mass starts at 7:30pm on Wednesday.

2/27, Station of Cross starts at 7:15pm on Friday.

2/29, 1st Sunday of Lent, Mass schedule is as normal.

 

Marriage Encounter:

 

※ “The Enneagram in Love & Work” book study was held on Saturday, 1/10. We had a wonderful and interesting time together. Mary Lee translated "4th type interacting with 8th type" into Chinese and presented the article during the meeting. It generated several interesting questions.  Those discussions inspired us to understand the 4th type people's personality and the interactions between type 4 and type 8 person. Understanding is the first step of accepting each other.

 

Because of the in depth presentation and discussion, only half of the material was discussed. We will continue the second half of the 4th type discussion in the next meeting which will be held at 3:15 PM on Saturday, 2/7, at our church.

 

Special thanks go to Mary for her enormous time and efforts in translating the book. She will finish the translation of 8th type as well.  Besides her hard work, we need more manpower to help translate the rest of the materials.  If any one likes to volunteer the translation work, you are more than welcome to join and please let Mary Lee or Jensen Chang know.

 

Note: The study is scheduled on every second Saturday of the month. February meeting is rescheduled to the first Saturday due to the conflict with the church event. The April study is scheduled on 4/17 also due to the conflict.

 

Administrative:

 

※The first parking space west of the church entry is reserved for Fr. Chen. Please do not park in that space. The next two parking spaces are reserved for visiting priests and visitors during Sunday Mass service. Please do not park in these two spaces on Sunday morning. You are free to park there any other time.

 

※There is a “Lost & Found” box in the room next to Fr. Chen’s office. Please place the found items in the box and check the box for your lost items. If precious items are found, please give it to any staff members. Check with Jensen Chang if you lost precious items. 

 

Youth Formation:

 

※Do you wish your kids to have a happy and memorable summer camp? The only Catholic-run summer camp in Texas, The Pines Catholic Camp, organizes various weekly camps every summer for children and youth. Two of the youth camps very worthwhile to participate are "Counselor in Training" and "Service Work Week". The cost of each camp is about $300. Because the camps are very popular, it is recommended to register within the month of February. Details can be seen on their website http://www.thepines.org/.

 

※Our parish has requested some 50 copies of Pro-Life Bumper Sticker from the National Pro-Life Committee. All are welcome to get a copy at the lobby. Let us use every chance to spread the message of the culture of life.

 

※During the parish Lent Retreat scheduled on February 14 (Saturday), CCD will provide a retreat program for children of grades 6 and under. Fee is $5 each, including breakfast and lunch. Registration is together with the adult retreat registration. As for the youth (grades 7 and above) Lent Retreat, we will organize it separately, the date and place are to be announced.

 

※Sponsored and produced by the famous Catholic actor Mel Gibson under various obstacles, the film "The Passion of Christ" is to be released nationwide on Ash Wednesday (February 25, 2004). Those who had a chance to see the preview were all deeply touched. This film is based on the gospel, and is about the last twelve hours of our Savior Jesus Christ. If our schedule permits, CCD plans to organize the youth in the parish to see this movie within two weeks of its release. We also hope that our parishioners will not miss this rare chance to watch a commercial movie that is loyal to the gospel of Christ.

 

Outreach Team.

 

※On January 3, 2004, over 30 folks from our church visited Dallas White Rose Women's Center and prayed in front of the Abortion Clinic next to the Center for unborn life. According to Marvin, usually about 4 to 6 women came to the Center on Saturday morning asking for help.  On January 10, only 2 women came to visit the Center.  On the day when we visited, nobody came for help before 11:30 AM.  Surprisingly, after we left, 12 women came before the Center closed at 3:00 PM.  We appreciate all the participants, especially the youth. White Rose Women Center currently needs several volunteers to help counseling. Please contact Marvin if you are interested.

 

※According to the Bishop's Office and the Pro-Life Committee, since the decision of Roe v. Wade Supreme Court to legalize abortion in America on January 22, 1973, we've lost over 43 million unborn babies.  Please pray for those unborn lives and join the Rosary Procession at the abortion clinic selected by the Pro-Life Committee on the second Saturday of each month.  This month Rosary Procession will be at 9 AM on the 14th in Garland, TX 75044.  Please contact Marvin, Aileen Chen or Jerry Han for more detailed information.

※Charity Fund Distribution Committee had a meeting on December 14, 2003. The Committee decided to donate $300 to the White Rose Women's Center's in supporting of their work helping the general public to recognize the inherent dignity of human beings and to save unborn life.  We also donated $500 to support Fr. Luis Ruiz on his missionary work in China.

※We'll have a birthday cake to celebrate February Birthday Stars on February 1 at church's activity hall during the lunch.

 

Chinese School:

 

※ We really appreciate all the parents who have helped their children in preparing for the New Year’s program. Your company and contribution in making the sets are wonderful. All the students had a great and joyful celebration.

 

※ The school will be closed on February 1st. In the following 4 weeks, all of the classes will be focusing on the textbook and vocabulary. The Class focus is based on Confucious’ “Rushing will slow you down”, which should be applied to your daily life.
